Roger was a United States Airforce Veteran, he graduated from Oklahoma University, and was a member of several groups around the Village. He was born September 19, 1941 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Ray Virgil Southerland and Ida Mae Ripley. He was a charter member of the Arkansas Society of the General Society War of 1812; president of DeSoto Trace Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and vice president of the State SAR; a member of Sons of the Confederate Veterans, the El Mina Shrine, Galveston, Texas, and South Park Masonic Lodge, Beaumont, Texas.
